RotoHog has worked with LG Electronics to create fantasy sports promotions to promote LG’s line of High Definition Televisions.
In 2007, fantasy sports players were able to opt into one of two LG Electronics promotional leagues. Users in one league were playing for a 42″ LCD TV, while users in the other league were playing for a 50″ Plasma TV. LG was able to use the information generated by these opt-ins as market research for future advertising and promotion.
In 2008, LG Electronics used fantasy football to promote their brand new “Edge HDTV.” Again fantasy players were allowed to join a promotional league sponsored by LG. NBA star Brandon Roy was the face of the fantasy league, and LG and RotoHog hosted a live party in Hollywood to promote the game and the LG televisions. The press and PR generated by the many celebrities and media members in attendance added even more value to the sponsorship. This relationship illustrates a successful example of the ways fantasy sports can be blended with brands and talent to generate revenue.
