Former Prime Minister of Pakistan Benazir Bhutto was assassinated on December 27, 2007 fifteen years ago in Liaquat Bagh, Rawalpindi.

Benazir Bhutto murder was similar to the first Prime Minister of the country Liaquat Ali Khan. Both remained Prime Ministers, were killed in the same place and their murders are still mysteries.

After returning home on October 18, 2007, Benazir’s life continued to be threatened. She returned ignoring the warning of former military president General (retd) Pervez Musharraf.

After her return, she suffered two major suicide attacks on her processions, in which more than 150 workers were killed.

Benazir Bhutto said General (retd) Pervez Musharraf, former ISI chief Lt. General (retd) Hameed Gul, Pervez Musharraf’s close aide Brigadier (retd) Ijaz Shah and the then Chief Minister Punjab Pervez Elahi, etc were involved in those attacks.

On Nov 3, Pervez Musharraf imposed Emergency in Pakistan. She returned from Dubai and survived two more attacks and the attackers were caught.

Benazir’s security team was changed after so many attacks. The responsibility of security was transferred from Zulfiqar Mirza to Rehman Malik which proved a wrong decision.

Why Benazir was killed, the answer to this question is still eagerly sought. But PPP seems to know who killed her. They can’t announce as the other side is too strong and in power.
