Botox What You Need To Know

Unsure if you want to take the plunge into the world of Botox? Botulinum Toxin (Botox) injections are considered one of the most popular non-surgical cosmetic procedures performed, with more than 7.7 million Botox treatments carried out in 2019 alone (American Society of Plastic Surgeons).

If you decide to go ahead with Botox, New You Laser Center gave us some things you need to know.

Look for a licensed injector

Scheduling a consultation with an expert medical professional is highly recommended. Done right, the results can create a youthful, rejuvenated appearance – but done wrong, and you may not recognize yourself!

Understand the costs involved

Discuss the amount of units required during your consultation. On average, an eyebrow (including in between the eyes) and forehead procedure is expected to require approximately 64 units, with the cost per unit averaging between $10 and $15.

Prepare for the procedure

You’ll need to keep your face free of dirt, make-up and moisturizer as the physician/technician may apply an antiseptic and rubbing alcohol prior to the treatment.

Don’t expect results straight away

After your Botox treatment, don’t panic if you look in the mirror and discover no noticeable changes. The results will begin to appear three to seven days post-procedure (full results).

Most patients experience minimal discomfort, however, for patients more sensitive to pain, you may want to ask the physician for a local anesthetic ointment (applied 10 minutes prior to the procedure). The procedure itself takes approximately 10 minutes.

Post-procedure, you may experience some stinging/tingling and various small red bumps at the injection site, but don’t worry, both of these will fade rather quickly.

Follow aftercare advice

Your technician will tell you what you should and shouldn’t do after Botox. These include:

– Don’t bend over for the first 4-6 hours;

– Don’t rub or massage your face;

– Don’t exercise (wait 24 hours);

– Don’t forget to schedule a follow-up appointment.

Two weeks after the procedure, your wrinkles and fine lines should be relaxed, with results lasting 3-4 months. This is the time to enjoy your refreshed face – you could look 7-10 years younger!
