Events held on “International Day of Persons with Disabilities”
Special children are not less than anyone in their abilities and are an important part of our society.
Deputy Commissioner Imtiaz Ahmed Khan Khichi has said that special children are not less than anyone in their abilities and are an important part of our society.
It is the responsibility of society to provide a conducive environment for special children so that they can become literate and productive citizens.
He has further said that a positive attitude should be adopted for special children in the society so that these children do not realize their disability.
He said this while addressing a function organized in collaboration with Sahiwal Arts Council and Department of Special Education Sahiwal on the occasion of International Day of Persons with Disabilities at Jinnah Hall.
Director Arts Council Dr. Syed Riaz Hamdani, Director Public Relations Muhammad Aqeel Ashfaq, Controller of Examinations Rana Naveed Azmat, District Special Education Officer Dr. Abdul Kareem, DEO Secondary Education Khadim Hussain Mohal, Ex-President Sahiwal Chamber of Commerce, Ex-President Rotary Club Chaudhry Sultan Mahmood, District Health Officer Dr. Abdul Majeed Khan Niazi, DEO Elementary Chaudhry Muhammad Ikram, Deputy DEO Amara Kashif, Head of Center Rabia Chaudhry and Headmistress of Government Special Education School for Visually Impaired Nabiya Zia along with teachers, parents of special students and a large number of students participated in the event.
Deputy Commissioner Imtiaz Ahmad Khan Khichi said that there was a time when disabled people were considered inferior. But by celebrating such festivals at the global level, the society has become aware that these people are different from us and not disabled.
These people are an important part of our society which is a welcome development. He said that the Punjab government is also ensuring the provision of jobs to special people according to the quota in public and private institutions. Steps are being taken to make the special persons useful citizens in the race of life.
Other participants in the event also expressed their views regarding the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
On this occasion, children from different schools performed art and received applause from the audience. At the end of the ceremony, Deputy Commissioner Imtiaz Ahmed Khan Khichi was presented Punjabi Turban and Sindhi Ajrak by the special children.
