Lauren Alaina is an American country music singer and songwriter from Rossville, Georgia. She was the runner-up on the tenth season of American Idol. Her debut album, Wildflower, was released on October 11, 2011.
Alaina was born on 8 November 1994 in Rossville, Georgia to Kristy and J.J. Suddeth. She has an older sister named Holly. Alaina started singing at the age of three and began taking vocal lessons at the age of eight or nine; she would eventually perform with a local children’s group called “Ansley & Lauren”. At around this time, Alaina also began entering talent competitions held in nearby Chattanooga, Tennessee. In 2009 she graduated from Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe High School in Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia.

Alaina was one of the five female contestants in the Top 10 who were not safe from elimination on April 14, 2011 after their first performances in the semi-finals. Her debut single, “Georgia Peaches”, was released to country radio on October 3, 2011 and peaked at number 37 on the Billboard Country Airplay chart. Wildflower was released on October 11, 2011 and debuted at number two on the Billboard 200 chart and number one on the Top Country Albums chart; it has sold 465,000 copies as of November 2013. The album’s second single, “Eighteen Inches”, was released to country radio on December 5, 2011 and peaked at number 28 on the Country Airplay chart.
She co-wrote all but four songs on Wildflower, including the first single “Georgia Peaches” and the title track. She has stated that Miranda Lambert is her main musical influence. Alaina is also a fan of Britney Spears, Taylor Swift, Reba McEntire and Carrie Underwood.
Alaina has been nominated for several awards, including the Academy of Country Music Awards, Country Music Association Awards and Grammy Awards. In October 2012, she was inducted into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame.
