Omar Khalid has an impressive start at the Qatar Open

KARACHI: Omar Khalid Hussain, a Pakistani, finished sixth in the prestigious Qatar Open Amateur Golf Championship at the Doha Golf Club after making an impressive debut.

In the final round of one of the most prestigious golf tournaments in the Middle East, Omar, Pakistan’s youngest National Amateur champion, shot a two-over par 74 to finish sixth.

Omar is participating for the first time in the Qatar Open in 2023, which featured 124 international players from all over the world.

The long and difficult Doha Golf Club, which recently hosted the USD2.5 million Qatar International Series Golf Championship, served as the venue for the three-day championship. Top international players, including LIV Golf stars, participated in the event.

Due to its length and extremely windy conditions, the 7300-yard DCG course proved to be quite challenging.

In the championship, Omar, an 18-year-old Nixor College student from Karachi, shot rounds of 76, 75, and 74.

“It was an exceptionally intense course and the greens were very quick,” said Omar, who has addressed Pakistan at the World Group Title in Paris and the Asia Pacific Novice in Thailand. He is the sole golfer from Pakistan who has qualified for the United States Golf Association Championship.
