Ryan Patrick Fitzpatrick (born November 24, 1982), nicknamed “Fitzmagic”, is an American football quarterback for the Miami Dolphins of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Harvard and was drafted by the St. Louis Rams in the seventh round of the 2005 NFL Draft. Fitzpatrick has also played for the Buffalo Bills, Cincinnati Bengals, Tennessee Titans, Houston Texans, New York Jets, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Biography

Fitzpatrick attended Gilbert Highland High School in Gilbert, Arizona, where he played high school football. As a senior, he was named to the All-Region and All-Conference teams. He also earned honorable mention All-State honors. In addition to football, he was also a member of the high school wrestling team.

After high school, Fitzpatrick attended Harvard University, where he played football for the Harvard Crimson football team from 2001 to 2004. He was a four-year letterman and earned Honorable Mention All-Ivy League honors as a senior. He graduated from Harvard in 2005 with a bachelor’s degree in economics.

Fitzpatrick was drafted by the St. Louis Rams in the seventh round of the 2005 NFL Draft. He was waived by the Rams on September 3, 2006. He signed with the Cincinnati Bengals on September 12, 2006. He spent most of his time on the Bengals’ practice squad before being signed to the active roster on December 19, 2007. He made his NFL debut on December 30, 2007, against the San Francisco 49ers.

On September 7, 2008, he was traded to the Buffalo Bills in exchange for a sixth-round draft pick in the 2009 NFL Draft. He made his first career start on November 2, 2008, against the New York Jets and threw for 247 yards and two touchdowns. Fitzpatrick became the Bills’ starting quarterback in 2010 and had a breakout season, throwing for 3,000 yards and 23 touchdowns. He was named the AFC Offensive Player of the Month for October after leading the Bills to a 4-0 record and throwing 11 touchdown passes during the month.
