The DG PSB has suggested that new tennis tryouts be held for the Asian Games

KARACHI: The father of a tennis player has asked the Director General of the Pakistan Sports Board to intervene regarding the selection trials for the Asian Games’ national tennis team.

Aftab Qureshi wrote to DG PSB, “The selection trials of Pakistan’s tennis team for the upcoming Asian Games be re-planned from April 10th so that my talented daughter could also participate in them.”

It should be noted that Pakistan Tennis Federation held trials at the PTF-SDA Tennis Complex from February 27 to March 1 to select a national women’s team for the Billie Jean King Cup and the 19th Asian Games.

Mahin Aftab

Mahin, Aftab’s 21-year-old daughter, “has been to Barcelona since 2012 during the 3-month summer vacations almost every year,” according to Aftab, who is also Director Academies of the Pakistan Squash Federation.

Aftab stated, “Mahin joined Barcelona Tennis Academy in March of last year.”

He went on to say that Mahin had also recently won two European Barcelona Federation tournaments.

Tragically, he added, her residency card is yet to be given as a result of which she was unable to try and move inside Europe/Schengen states.

He stated, “She is anticipated to receive the Residency card on or around March 10.” Aftab stated, “Mahin really wanted to be a part of the said trials for the Asian Games, so I told the Pakistan Tennis Federation about all of this in January.”

PTF

He went on to say that PTF had trials and didn’t wait for her, even though she could have been given a wildcard because PTF had excluded Sara Mehboob and Ushna Suhail.

He said that if he didn’t get new trials for the selection of the national team for the Asian Games, he would sue the PTF in court for “injustice by PTF.”

This correspondent called the federation’s spokesperson to inquire about his remarks, but he was not available.
