Tiger Woods will not compete in the Players Tournament next week

MIAMI: Since Tiger Woods won’t play in the Players Championship next week, it seems likely that the Masters at Augusta National in April will be his next tournament.
On Friday, the PGA Tour made the field announcement for their main event in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. Woods, who won the Players in 2001 and 2013, was not on the list.
The last time Woods played was in February at the Genesis Invitational at Riviera, where he was still limited by severe injuries to his lower right leg from a car accident in February 2021.
On Sunday, he acknowledged that it “certainly was a little bit more difficult than I probably let on” and that he made the cut and finished in a tie for 45th place.
Apart from stating that he hoped to play in all four majors and possibly “a couple” of other events, Woods had given no indication of his upcoming schedule at Riviera.
According to Woods, “Like I told you guys last year, I’m not going to play any more than probably the majors and maybe a few more.” That is the only thing my body will let me do. I just can’t, with my back the way it is, all of my back surgeries, and my leg the way it is. That will simply be my future.
After missing the cut at the Open Championship in July, Woods competed in his first tour-level event at Riviera. To get ready for St. Andrews, he had skipped the US Open.
He withdrew from the PGA Championship after the third round, despite his stunning return to competition at the Masters, where he tied for 47th.
