He was first known for being a member of the Christian hip hop trio DC Talk, who released five studio albums before going on hiatus in 2000. Toby then embarked on a solo career, releasing his first album in 2001. TobyMac’s latest album, Eye on It, was released on August 28, 2012, and debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart becoming his first solo album to do so. Kevin Michael McKeehan was born in Falls Church, Virginia on October 22, 1964, the son of Deborah and Kenneth Dale McKeehan. He has an older sister named Aly and a younger brother named Truett (who also goes by TR). As kids growing up outside Washington D.C., they were exposed early to Christian music through the likes of Pat Boone and the Gaither Vocal Band, and were active in church. TobyMac became friends with Michael Tait in the early 1990s when they were both part of DC Talk. They would often spend time with each other while on tour, and Tait would eventually invite McKeehan to join his band.
TobyMac formed DC Talk with Tait and Kevin Max in 1987 at Liberty University. They released five studio albums before going on hiatus in 2000: DC Talk (1989), Nu Thang (1990), Free at Last (1992), Jesus Freak (1995), and Supernatural (1998). All these albums debuted at number one on Christian charts. Between 2002 and 2004, he produced his first solo album titled Momentum, released in 2003. It was a commercial success due mainly to the hit “Extreme Days”, which garnered mainstream airplay on Christian radio stations as well as secular stations like the former KROQ 106.7 FM (now 106.1 FM) in Los Angeles and others nationwide. The title track from the album was also remixed by John Reuben for TobyMac’s remix album Re: Mix Momentum, released on November 15, 2005.
TobyMac’s net worth is estimated to be around $10 million.
This includes his music sales, touring, merchandise, and other business ventures. TobyMac has been active in the music industry for over two decades and shows no signs of slowing down. He is one of the most successful Christian artists of all time and has won numerous awards, including five Grammy Awards.
