Rajab Butt wants to play the late Abdul Sattar Edhi in a biopic

Pakistani YouTuber Rajab Butt, who is no stranger to controversy, has said he would like to play the late philanthropist Abdul Sattar Edhi in a biopic.

He made the remarks as a guest on a recent podcast. Asked whose life story he would like to film, he joked that he would pick his own, then named Edhi. He said he loves Edhi Sahib and that it might be possible if he can take on Edhi’s look and audiences accept him in the role. The wish has drawn mostly disapproval from social media users.

His big-screen debut

Butt is preparing to enter films. He is set to play the lead in an action-comedy directed by Syed Faisal Bukhari, with actress Amar Khan as the female lead, and filming has reportedly begun. He has about 9 million YouTube subscribers and nearly 3 million Instagram followers.

The move has already divided opinion online. Actress and producer Hareem Farooq defended him, saying people who want to enter the film industry should be encouraged rather than trolled, and that the industry needs projects audiences genuinely want to watch.

A controversial public profile

Butt has been in the headlines often. He left Pakistan after blasphemy allegations, which he has denied, and has said his return depends on approval from high-level authorities.

He also announced on a podcast that his marriage to Emaan Fatima, which began with a lavish, widely shared wedding in 2024, was over. He has also feuded publicly with actor Fahad Mustafa over remarks about family vloggers.
